Introduction

SqueekySynth is a BeOS-native sample-based software synthesizer, based on the FluidSynth library. It loads industry-standard Soundfont 2.1 multisample files, and presents itself as a standard MIDI device to the operating system. It can also load wave files, for playing across the keyboard.

SqueekySynth features dual integrated effects processors, high quality interpolation, sub-millisecond latency, and sample rates up to 96KHz.

This manual assumes the reader has some degree of familiarity with the MIDI protocol, and a basic understanding of Soundfont files. If not, there are numerous references on the World Wide Web which may be of assistance.

This program was designed for and tested exclusively under BeOS R5. While an attempt has been made to make it compatible with Haiku and Zeta, it has not (at the time of writing) been tested under these systems.

To effectively use this software, you will need a very fast CPU, preferably 500 MHz or greater, as real-time software synthesis can consume a considerable amount of processor power. Dual processor/core systems will not provide any increase in the number of voices that can be achieved, but will significantly improve system responsiveness compared with a single CPU system when using SqueekySynth.

Please read the Legal Section before proceeding with using this software. It is also strongly recommended that you read the Configuration section of this manual, to ensure that SqueekySynth is set up correctly.

Enjoy SqueekySynth!
